The government is preparing to roll out a major Export Promotion Mission worth around ₹25,000 crore to protect Indian exporters from global trade shocks. According to official sources, the proposal will soon be placed before the Union Cabinet for approval after inter-ministerial consultations were recently completed.
Six-Year Support Package for Exporters
The mission, first announced in the Union Budget, is expected to run from 2025 to 2031, offering financial and policy support to Indian exporters. Spread across six financial years, the initiative aims to make Indian goods more competitive in the global market while minimizing the impact of trade-related disruptions.
Relief from US Tariff Pressure
This move comes at a crucial time when Indian exporters are facing mounting pressure due to recent global trade measures. In particular, the United States imposed a steep 50% tariff on Indian goods starting August 27, which has raised concerns across several export-driven industries. Officials suggest the scheme will work as a buffer mechanism, helping exporters navigate uncertainties caused by such sudden policy changes. One source highlighted that the mission will be “fungible”, meaning flexible in its structure, so it can be adapted to different trade situations as needed.
If approved by the Cabinet, the scheme will provide targeted relief and incentives, ensuring India’s exporters can maintain growth momentum despite global economic and political challenges. This is expected to strengthen India’s position in international trade and provide stability to sectors most affected by foreign tariffs.
