Mr. Vaishnaw said the bullet train project’s first phase will launch on the Surat-Bilimora section in 2027, extend to Thane in 2028, and reach the Bandra Kurla Complex by 2029.

On Saturday morning (September 20, 2025), a breakthrough was achieved on the 4.88 km tunnel between Shilphata and Ghansoli for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, in the presence of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Describing it as a “landmark achievement,” Mr. Vaishnaw, who oversaw the tunnel breakthrough, announced that the first phase of the high-speed corridor on the Surat-Bilimora section will commence in December 2027.
