An Indian traveler, fascinated by the “Human Watch” installation at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, shared a video describing the unique artwork he had just witnessed.
An Indian traveler was astonished after coming across the unique ‘Human Watch’ at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, the Netherlands’ main international gateway, and posted a video describing what he had witnessed.
The video, shared on Instagram by SK Ali, has garnered over one million views.
In the video, Ali said, “I’m at Amsterdam airport and just came across this huge clock that looks animated. A man appears to draw and erase the clock’s hands to show the time—it’s incredible.” He then captured the figure marking 6:10 on the clock, before updating it moments later to 6:11.
In the caption of his post, Ali wrote: “At Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, a giant transparent clock captivates travelers with its unique design. Instead of mechanical hands, a man inside the clock seems to paint and erase them every minute, creating the illusion of real-time movement. This ‘Human Watch’ merges art with timekeeping, transforming an ordinary clock into a landmark.”
The installation, titled Real Time, is a creation of Dutch artist Maarten Baas.
It consists of a 12-hour looping video of actor Tiago Sa da Costa erasing and redrawing clock hands on a translucent screen, creating the illusion of a man inside the clock painting time minute by minute.
Meanwhile, social media users reacted in their usual style—some applauding the creativity of the artwork, while others added a touch of humor in the comments.
