Freida McFadden’s bestselling thriller The Housemaid is getting the big-screen treatment. Directed by Paul Feig, the film stars Sydney Sweeney as Millie, an ex-con who takes a job as a live-in maid for a wealthy couple — Nina and Andrew Winchester, played by Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar.

The teaser hints at dark twists unfolding in the Winchesters’ home following Millie’s arrival. It features tense, dramatic scenes set to the backdrop of Sabrina Carpenter’s “Please Please Please.”

The Housemaid story

The Housemaid follows the unsettling journey of Wilhelmina “Millie” Calloway, a young woman who accepts a live-in housekeeping job with the wealthy Winchester family on Long Island. Hired by Nina Winchester to maintain their sprawling estate and assist with their daughter Cecelia, Millie quickly discovers that luxury comes at a cost.

Confined to a tiny attic room despite the family’s opulence, Millie begins to witness disturbing behavior within the household. Desperate to keep the job, she stays—unaware of just how perilous that decision will become.

The Housemaid release date

The Housemaid is set to hit theaters worldwide on December 19. Alongside Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, and Brandon Sklenar, the film also features Michele Morrone, Indiana Elle, and Elizabeth Perkins in supporting roles.

Following the release of The Housemaid trailer, social media lit up with reactions from fans.

One user wrote, “Here to watch Amanda Seyfried DEVOUR this role!”

Another praised the trailer’s accuracy, saying, “The attention to detail! As someone who’s read the book, this trailer does it justice. Nina’s hair, the attic and mini fridge, the white clothes—everything! Super excited.”

However, not everyone agreed on the visuals. “Is it just me, or does Millie’s room seem way bigger and brighter than in the book?” one commenter noted. “I always pictured it as a tiny space with dark wood floors and walls.”
