All eyes are on Vigyan Bhawan today as the 71st National Film Awards ceremony gets underway, honouring the finest achievements in Indian cinema from 2023. President Droupadi Murmu will present the awards at the event, which is set to begin at 4 pm.

This year’s National Film Awards hold special significance for both Bollywood and regional cinema. Superstar Shah Rukh Khan will share the Best Actor honour with Vikrant Massey—Khan for his blockbuster performance in Jawan and Massey for his career-defining role in 12th Fail. In the women’s category, Rani Mukerji has been named Best Actress for her powerful portrayal in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway.

Mohanlal to Receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Malayalam cinema legend Mohanlal will be honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema spanning over four decades.

Winners Were Announced Earlier

The awardees were first revealed on August 1, but the official ceremony is being held today. The National Film Awards remain two years behind schedule, largely due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
