Shiwangi Peswani recounted her disturbing experience in an Instagram video, tagging the Gurugram Cyber Police in a post that has since gone viral.
Peswani, 50, said the incident took place around 12:45 a.m. on September 14, shortly after she returned home in Gurugram. She received a comment on one of her Instagram reels from someone who appeared to know her whereabouts and vehicle details. At first, she assumed it was a follower, but the individual later claimed to be a police officer who had allegedly tracked her using her car’s number plate.
“Someone had not only tracked my exact car, location, and movements, but initially claimed to be a policewoman,” Peswa1ni wrote in the caption of her post. “He later confessed that he was actually a male police officer using a fake identity
Deeply disturbed by the incident, Peswani reported it to the cyber crime police station and submitted screenshots of the messages as evidence.
.”She went on to say that the officer admitted to accessing her personal details because he had “taken a liking” to her. He allegedly sent unsolicited messages commenting on her appearance and trying to initiate a friendship.
After several days, the police identified the officer and summoned both him and Peswani to the station. According to her, officials downplayed the incident, saying the officer “did not have any ill intentions” and suggested she could have just blocked him. “If women my age are still facing this, imagine what young girls must go through,” Peswani said in her video.
Peswani emphasized that her decision to speak out was not merely personal, but aimed at shedding light on the broader issues of abuse of power and the urgent need for women to feel safe.
She confirmed that a formal complaint has been filed and that the matter is currently under police investigation.
The Gurugram Cyber Police has yet to respond to her post.
