Wangchuk was arrested at 2:30 pm by a police team headed by Ladakh Police Chief S D Singh Jamwal, officials said, adding that he has since been moved out of Ladakh.

The unrest resulted in four deaths and several injuries. The BJP has yet to issue an official response to the allegations surrounding the arrest.

The arrest came just a day after the Union Home Ministry revoked the FCRA license of the Students’ Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL)—an organization founded by Wangchuk—citing alleged financial irregularities and a fund transfer it claimed was against “national interest.”
